GUIDING PRINCIPLES OF THE CIRCULAR ACTION HUB

The design, evolution, operations, and code of conduct of Circular Action Hub are guided by a set of Principles that it encourages and expects its participants to also adopt.

While the Hub will not systematically assess its participants for alignment with these objectives, it reserves the right to restrict the participation of organisations that blatantly disregard or offend these Principles.

The Circular Action Hub’s Guiding Principles are divided into three groups, as follows:

OVERARCHING PRINCIPLES OF CIRCULAR ACTION HUB

Applicable to all participants, standards and initiatives listed in the Hub.

Environmental Integrity

Promote activities that lead
to improved circularity

Inclusiveness

Remove barriers to entry and to give access to financial support for socially-inclusive initiatives

Learning by doing

Strive for continuous improvement based on experience learned with projects.

ADDITIONAL PRINCIPLES FOR CREDIT BUYERS AND INVESTORS

Complementarity

The use of credits must be complemented by initiatives and internal measures that promote circularity in different ways. Alignment with Guidelines for Corporate Plastic Stewardship.

No Double-Counting

The environmental impact related to the recovery and destination of waste should not be attributed to more than one entity.

Transparency

The transactions of credits of participants will be recorded in the Circular Action Hub’s Registry, so that any circularity claim can be substantiated.

ADDITIONAL PRINCIPLES FOR PROJECT DEVELOPERS

Demonstrability

Project impact must be substantiated by evidence that the activity was conducted and that its impact can be quantified.

Fair Remuneration

The environmental service of waste recovery must be remunerated in a way that is appropriate to the workload, time required and local context.

Do no harm

Projects must adhere to minimum social and environmental safeguards to ensure that the activities involved do not cause harm to the parties involved.
